Aurora

Aurora Aksnes born June 15 1996 in Stavanger and known professionally as Aurora occasionally stylized as AURORA is a Norwegian singer and songwriter. Her debut E.P. Running with the Wolves, was released in May of 2015 by Decca Records to great approval from music journalists and media. She's recorded a variety of well-known covers, such as Half the World Away (by the group Oasis) to accompany John Lewis' Christmas advert and Nature Boy (by Nat King Cole) The songs are widely loved. The singer gained further attention thanks to a Facebook post from Katy Perry where Perry endorsed her track Runaway. It was her birthday celebration. Aurora Aksnes earliest musical memory is that of locating a piano in her attic and becoming fascinated by the sounds it would produce. Parents May-Britt and Jan Oystein Aksnes encouraged her to study music, not for a career or hobby but as a way to develop. The singer began to write her own songs. Her inspirations include famous writers Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan and the style of Bjork. Her decision to begin performing her music in public when her mother suggested that they could help people not gain fame through her music, but rather to help the people around them understand their importance and the ways they could impact the world. Her first piano lesson was when she was just six and began to write music by the time she was nine. It wasn't until her 14th birthday that she revealed her plans to her parents. Aurora is not something she set out to achieve. She says she just likes to compose songs. For her, music is the best way to feel anything.
